(Rochester, NY) – In accordance with Monroe County Democratic Committee (MCDC) Bylaws and New York State Election Law, the Monroe County Democratic Committee has concluded its biennial election of countywide and local committee officers, electing Stephen DeVay as the Party’s Chairperson and several new leaders for City and Town committees.

MCDC’s reorganization process allows its more than 1,700 elected members on 29 City Legislative District and Town committees to vote for the county Party’s Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, the Monroe County Board of Elections (BOE) Democratic Commissioner, and each local committee’s leadership team. Throughout New York State, Democratic committees reorganize during even-numbered calendar years, beginning in March, when members petition to serve.

The following candidates for executive office ran unopposed as The New Democratic Monroe, a slate of returning leaders who are committed to building a stronger, democratic, Monroe County:

  • Stephen DeVay (former MCDC Executive Vice Chair, 2020 – 2022), elected Chair
  • Anthony Plonczynski-Figueroa, appointed Executive Vice Chair
  • Ebony Dukes-Wilcox, re-elected Secretary
  • Beatriz LeBron, re-elected Treasurer
  • Jacklyn Ortiz, re-elected Monroe County BOE Democratic Commissioner

“I am humbled and honored to become the next Chairperson of the Monroe County Democratic Committee – and with that the next person to lead the fight for Democratic values and support for our candidates – as we fight for the soul of our county and our country,” said DeVay. “My top priority today is getting Democrats elected to local, state, and federal offices on November 8. But in seeking this office, I also assured my colleagues that I would continue the work we have already begun to unify the Party behind Democratic values and candidates, and to build a proudly Democratic political movement across Monroe County. I am excited to work with committee members and leadership teams from throughout the county – as well as our elected officials – to accomplish this and the other goals we have set for the next few years.

“I also want to congratulate the leaders and officers who were elected to our City and Town Democratic committees countywide. As a former committee leader myself, I know first hand how thankless these roles can be, and I want to be the first to congratulate you and thank you for taking on these important responsibilities.”
