MCDC Chair Stephen DeVay Statement on President Biden Stepping Down

From Monroe County Democratic Committee Chair Stephen DeVay: “President Joe Biden is one of the most transformational and accomplished presidents in our nation’s history – certainly in my lifetime – and I will be forever grateful for all he accomplished over 50 years of public service. He will leave our country in a better place and, today, he cemented his enduring legacy by once again putting our country’s needs first.

“Over the coming weeks, our Party will make critical decisions regarding our Presidential ticket, but I would be remiss if I didn’t highlight Vice President Kamala Harris’s readiness to lead our nation and continue the work that she and President Biden started. And, of course, throughout Monroe County, Democrats are as committed as ever to defeating Donald Trump and JD Vance in November.”

Thanks Joe

Hi everybody. Did you watch Lawrence O’Donnell Wednesday? His A block was excellent. I transcribed it because I’m like that. I didn’t want to clog this place up with it, but you can read it at my own blog, here.

It is worth a read. If I find video, I will post it here. Go vote!

Sincerely, Aaron B. Pryor, MTSD

From Manhattan to Mendon and across the nation, the decision came down this week, that #45 is guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records in what much of the media has erroneously called the “hush money trial.” And while it can be debated as to whether this result should be celebrated in mirth, it certainly deserves some reflection.

This was not a “hush money” trial, though that label’s salaciousness seems enough for the media to run with. No, this was yet another assertion of Donald Trump’s need and tendency to cheat, only this time, it was borne out in court. We’ll hear from others that the process was somehow rigged, that the judge was biased, that Venezuelan Jewish space lasers somehow affected the outcome. Appeals attempts will quash these claims, as the process was fair and just. Judge Juan Merchan bent over backwards to offer the defendant every quarter. The jury was reportedly attentive to both defense and prosecution. Counter to Trump’s bizarre complaints, he was always free to testify in court and was always notified of his right to do so. After the verdict, he all but admitted the reason he could not have done so is because he was sure to perjure himself.

Surely, this is not the level of accountability we deserved. That level of accountability could have been reached in February 2021 but was scuttled by Senate Republicans. This is why a happy dance and toasts are so tempting today; it is some level of accountability, finally. Someone has said to the system, this man cheats, and the system finally concurred. It is even more satisfying to know that the Republican Convention will be held mere days following sentencing.

But this decision further extends the question, how did we get this irresponsible lunatic elected in the first place? Republicans first and then voters second could not keep him from the Oval Office once. It is hoped we can halt his second attempt. President Biden would be unstoppable in more normal times, with his sublime record as President and what with running against a twice-impeached, disgraced felon like this guy.

These times are not so normal. So we, the Democratic voters, are going to have to be downright extraordinary.

Statement from the Mendon Democratic Town Leader

Regarding the recent disturbing behavior from our District Attorney: This is not a political position I take. It transcends party lines.

I urge everyone to view the entire video (embedded above).

Our elected officials should be held to a higher standard, or at least the lawful standard required of us all. The excuse of having a bad day is not good enough. It undermines the authority of the office and of the police so many make lip-service to support.

Without detailing what is on the video, suffice to say, that her behavior is arrogant, insulting, and abusive. It is, in simplest terms, unacceptable and she should resign.

This behavior would not be tolerated coming from anyone else and should not be tolerated by her.

Best,
Terry Daniele
